Coney Island – Brooklyn, New York

The Cyclone remains a well known landmark of Coney Island’s Astroland Park to this day.  After almost being demolished in 1972 for the proposed expansion of the aquarium, the “Save the Cyclone” campaign enabled Astroland Park to lease the land opposing the aquarium and re-open the historic rollercoaster.  It was named a National Historic Landmark on June 26, 1991.
