500 Butterflies

New York City is one of those places with a surprise around every corner.  Last night on my way home from work, I happened upon this little advertising gem.  In the corner window spot of a building which is under construction, on Park Ave at 20th Street, are currently 500 butterflies advertising Restart yogurt by Alpina.

I have no idea what butterflies have to do with yogurt, but apparently Alpina brand will be inserting 500 Butterflies in this man-made habitat every week, to advertise their product.

Here’s hoping each week will be a different variety!

This is all very sweet until you watch them dying – what does a dead monarch have to do with yogurt?

It’s true…I agree 100%. One week is far to long to have them in that window. Perhaps 2 days would’ve sufficed. Or, just releasing them in a park once a week would be sufficient as well.

  4. Dear Jen, Katrina,

We are glad you like our butterfly habitat, and we appreciate your concern about the butterflies. Please know that we have a caretaker who checks in and takes care of the butterflies every day, and that they are in a perfectly climate-controlled room. We love butterflies as well, and do all that we can to keep them happy and healthy. They are actually thriving in our butterfly habitat and living longer lives than butterflies normally do 🙂

As for the connection, Alpina has launched a Wish For Women campaign in which it is making donations to Women in Need (http://women-in-need.org). The butterflies represent the wishes made for women, and women ‘release’ wishes on the wings of a butterfly. We think its a great cause and a beautiful campaign to spread awareness.

If you would like to find out more, follow us on twitter @alpinawomenwish or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/alpinausa. Please feel free to contact us directly also at info@alpina.com, and we’ll happily get back to you.

    With all our best,
    The Alpina team
