Packing as light as possible, while still having everything I need, has always been a goal of mine – but at the same time I like having a guidebook to aid me along the way. While I know there is a slew of information on the internet (available with connection), there’s something about holding pages of information in my hand that is really hard for me to give up. I guess I feel like paper is much more reliable than internet connection depending on where you’re traveling.
Generally, however, I use only a small portion of the guidebooks I’ve purchased – be it only a few cities in a specific country, or a few countries in a more general book. That’s why, in order to keep things light, I’ve taken up the practice of simply cutting out only the sections I need (so I can bring them with me without adding too much extra weight).
Keeping pages like this in a waterproof pouch is highly suggested too…because hey, you never know when you are going to get stuck in torrential downpours.
